Experience the Jungle Life…

Dear Friends who love animals and orang-utans especially,

 My main reason to go back to this site is to inform you about something that needs attention.

 A few days earlier I was working at the Ragunan Zoo with Alain Compost, he was making a film of the orangutans that we at COP plan to relocate.

Many of the orangutans in that zoo were wild caught, they were kept in small cages and some of them were still babies when they arrived but now they are adults. They grew huge, adult orangutan is almost like as big as gorilla and imagine a gorila in a small cage in your backyard. Government seems careless.

We are hoping to relocate them back to Kalimantan to where they belong.

Sekonyer River is the west boundary of the Tanjung Puting National Park where we work and recently we discovered that some of the fish from this river were contaminated with mercury, the level were above the WHO recomendation, while fish takes big part in the local people’s meal.

I am sorry that  I didn’t upload this site for a long time, here I publish some activities I and FNPF have done with a support from UNIDO (United Nation of Industrial Development Organization). For the past couple of months we have been working closely with the miners, and the governments agencies.

Thank you Karin,

We would like to thank for Karin for volunteering with us in September. Karin is from French and stayed with us for three weeks helping the wildlife program. She had helped to clean the orangutan’s cage and also in  preparing line transect for orangutan survey. After Karin got back to her country she continued to help us to raise money in French.

We just got a short time volunteer who joined us for two weeks time in the park, early this month.  Simon, his name from England, turned  to Simonyet  here, means the Monkey, he has helped us to extinguish the fire and built the puppet show’s stage and also in helped us in surveying the orangutan. Now he’s continuing to volunteer with other wildlife program in Thailand.

At last but not least, thanks for our friend, Kay Howe from US who has been staying with us since early this year to help us with the mercury project and education. Although visa has made her almost give up but she decided to stay and continue the work with us. She must leave the country this week after 6 months stayed in
Indonesia, and now she is going to go to Singapore to get a new visa and will be back next week. Thank You  Ibu Kay

Another great news from here. Yesterday when I got back from a proboscys monkeys expedition we got a text massage from David,  the artist,  telling  that the Putra Utan painting  has been sold,  that means some money will be contributed for the orangutan and the wildlife.

A Great news from here.

We had said good bye to the Fire! 

On the 6^th of November,we got a lot of rains that has stopped the fire in many parts of Tanjung Putting including in our area. Thank you for your prayers, your supports and wishes.

Sleeping on the hammock under the tree last night, I admired the beauty of the nature and also thinking of what happened that day.  A TV Crew came from England with two bosses of a big organization. I was working with my team to put the fire out, and then one of the boss and the presenter were pretending that they were extinguish the fire. I felt funny to see that,  a big liar. He was acting to get money and he might would get that of this work, and  of what we have done, but people like us who really does the work, get none.

 Looking at my team sleeping on the dock to guard, I admire them, they work almost voluntary, day and night, sleep on the ground or on the dock, even they supply their own food to do this work because my organization is only small and we don’t have any budget for this.  Seems unfair, but I guess to think about that it will take my energy, I am happy with I am doing and so is the team, so I chose to enjoy the night sky and the shadow of the trees surround me.
