Still Fire
Hello Everybody,
Here is the latest news from
Tanjung Puting National Park,
We are having scary situation, the fire has been spreading so fast and now getting close to our main post, Tanjung Harapan. Just few days ago our team made a fire line to protect our reforestation work in Beguruh, but yesterday the fire blew to our main post which is 4 km from Beguruh, and now the fire is only about 2, 5 km from Tanjung Harapan. If the fire won’t stop soon, we are worry it will reach our post.
The picture in the “FIRE “ album were taken only on the 1st day of the fire, and the 3rd day, by now the fire has been spreading for 12 days, the pictures in the file “Fire in the Park” were taken on the Oct, 11th.
More than 500 hectares has been swollen by the fire by now.
Hopefully government will take a real action, otherwise not only the orang-utan will loose their home but the government themself will loose devisa, the tourists who mostly come to see the jungle and the orangutan will be dissapointed to see a burnt and empty Park
Hey, you think there is any realistic action the governement can take to help? to extinguish a fire like this will require big big force. Even in Spain, Portugal and Australia it is often not possible to do anything at all against fires like this and still there they have the waterdropping planes, many firebrigade etc etc. The governement should do much more to prevent fires like this from starting in the first place and enforce the law that there can be no slash and burning near the park boundaries.
Have the goverment taking any kind of action by now?
monyong, You are so right!
The situation is so terrible …
I really regret not to be more among you to help you ! I feel very guilty to leave the park just a few days before fire starts…
Your team makes such a good job there ! helping nature, wildlife and people…FNPF and your staff work so hard to reforest, during so many years, and it is so frustrating to see this work going up in smoke …
I really think about you and hope that you will find funds and volunteers … you’re worth it !!! and please, please, rain !
Good luck …
Dear Monyong and Pak Kurt,
