The Forester is back.

Today w
e got nice a surprise by the forester or the Reforestation Manager. He is back from his “meditation” time to refresh himself after the fire season that has burnt his work. He was so depressed when he left the park until had to swallow sleeping pills every night before he went to bed. We thankful for Mr. Hugo, one of FNPF Borneo’s friend that had spared his time while in Indonesia to visit Basuki at his house in Gunung Kidul, and comforted him. Also for Arta to gave his ears to hear Bas’ broken hearted story of his love for the trees.

We all glad that our reforestation team doesn’t loose the leader.

Ok Team move on!

Enjoying the night sky in the forest

Sleeping on the hammock under the tree last night, I admired the beauty of the nature and also thinking of what happened that day.  A TV Crew came from England with two bosses of a big organization. I was working with my team to put the fire out, and then one of the boss and the presenter were pretending that they were extinguish the fire. I felt funny to see that,  a big liar. He was acting to get money and he might would get that of this work, and  of what we have done, but people like us who really does the work, get none.

Looking at my team sleeping on the dock to guard, I admire them, they work almost voluntary, day and night, sleep on the ground or on the dock, even they supply their own food to do this work because my organization is only small and we don’t have any budget for this.  Seems unfair, but I guess to think about that it will take my energy, I am happy with I am doing and so is the team, so I chose to enjoy the night sky and the shadow of the trees surround me.

More details about Fire on the Oct, 21st

Hello Friends..

Ikan Karing, thanks for the questions.

We are lucky that  the post is still ok, it was pretty  strange on the Oct, 21st, after the fire  burnt the nursery, the wind changed its direction right in front of the post to the side of the post and turn back on the back of the post, then continued to burn the forest. It’s a  Miracle, isn’t it?

We lost some of our work in the nursery, about 15000 new trees got burnt, many of them were Iron wood trees but luckily not all of the seeds and trees got burnt, we  still have some trees to be planted when the rains come.

Greetings from the jungle

Fire again

Helo Everyone

After few days, rain gave us holiday from the fire for a while, we are back to fight the fire again. The rainy season has not come yet, or it’s only beginning of the rainy season. The fire is burning again in some different area, it’s because of the peat, when the rain only drop a llittle, it only put the fire out on the surface, but it still burning underground. And when the weather is so hot and the big wind comes, it starts again, red sky in the evening it’s a sign of the active burning, all over Kumai and Pangkalan Bun is still full of smoke. Yesterday the airport (like the previous day) was closed.

Ok, Will come back with the news from the field again soon..
